Applications

Used as an electron-injection modification layer or cathode interface layer for display panels. Ytterbium has a very low work function of about 2.6 eV, and sputtered ultrathin ytterbium films can greatly reduce the electron-injection barrier between the cathode and organic emission layer, improving injection efficiency, increasing brightness, and lowering device power consumption. Compared with magnesium and calcium films, ytterbium films have stronger chemical stability, can suppress interface reactions, extend screen lifetime, and reduce delamination under repeated bending in flexible foldable screens. They are suitable for flexible PI-substrate foldable displays, transparent OLEDs, and wearable smartwatch displays, offering good ductility, low cracking risk, low pinhole and black-dot defects, high device yield, and tolerance to vehicle-grade temperature fluctuations.
